It’s theater time again! For those of you who will be anywhere close to Ann Arbor this weekend, one of the Pieholes is appearing in Young Peoples Theater’s production of The King and I. This time around it’s going to be at Power Center, U of M’s main Performing Arts venue. There are some great pictures from the rehearsals on YPT’s Facebook page.
One of the Pieholes is in it, playing one of the “Ladies in Waiting” in the King’s court. I will be reprising my role with the greatest backstage crew assembled. Ever. Except that one guy. The producers have not taken me up on my offer to be understudy for the King role, but I’ve been preparing myself for the opportunity. Even if I don’t get the call, there’s really no down side to perfecting my imitation of the great Yul Brynner:
So now the past two posts make sense, right? Having Sir Mix-a-Lotta-Ingredients and yours truly responding to blogger awards where we list out ten facts about ourselves? No? You haven’t seen The King and I?
And to get a better sense of the classic badassedness of Brynner, check this on out -
Gooo Piehole! Awesome.
I have to confess, I haven’t seen the original with Yul Brynner….loved him in Westworld and Futureworld from the ’70s. The only version I’ve seen is Anna and The King with Jodie Foster & Chow Yun-Fat…one of my favorite love stories! So now I’m heading down to get The King and I. I checked out YTP’s Facebook page – quite impressive! Congrats to your piehole!
Thanks! The musical’s a little dated, but Yul Brynner is amazing. Someone mentioned to me that he performed King and I something like 3500 times. I loved him in Magnificent Seven, too!
