I have a blast doing these music posts every Friday and I hope you all enjoy them, too. Hopefully, they’ve made you smile, brought back memories from another time, or introduced you to something new that your kids are listening to. That way you can still yell at them to “turn down that noise!!” but now you’re going about it in an informed manner. And if you’re like me, these posts are a perfect way to start an alcohol-fueled weekend.
By now you’ve probably recovered from your New Year’s Eve hangover and are ready to break that resolution you made to cut down on drinking. What better way to get back into the swing of things than this blog’s musical highlights of 2012?
Bringing Back the 90s
I made it my goal to be known as the guy who started the next big thing pop culture – the 1990s retro fad. How’d I do? According to WordPress stats, the number one post on this blog for 2012 was Bringing Back the 90s! to the tune of 5,500 page views. I’m happy with that, but does it prove that I’ve started a fad? OF COURSE IT DOES. As I mentioned last month, boy bands are huge again and I’m sooooo taking credit for that.
Top Music Posts
Outside of that 90s post, the three that got the most views were:
Guilty Pleasures – Ke$ha, simply because there are a lot of sick puppies out there who Googled “Kesha on the beach.” And this is what they got for their troubles…

I honestly think it’s just the wrong suit for her. I think she’d look terrific in a burka. (poponthepop.com)
Guilty Pleasures – Call Me Maybe, because it was THE unavoidable song of the year.
Guilty Pleasures – Oops, I Did it Again, because a bunch of you Googled Naya Rivera:

Guilty Pleasures – Call Me Maybe
Guilty Pleasures – Congrats, Class of 2012! Now here’s some Nightranger. Because it’s gotta be one of the most inspirational things I’ve ever written.

Maybe I Got Old People All Wrong, because there were some killer songs on it.
Guilty Pleasures – Breast Cancer Awareness Month Edition. But then again, I love any post where I can feature Lindsay’s chest.

Posts that got me the most grief
Bringing Back the 90s: Grunge vs Gangsta Showdown, because no seems to agree with me that Gangstas ruled!!! I really need more black friends.
Guilty Pleasures – Brighter Than the Sun, because it’s still way too estrogen-infused

Guilty Pleasures – One for the Hipsters, because the post talks about going out to a local bar one night . Apparently, I neglected to invite this one guy. Bitch.

You went full hipster. You never go full hipster. (shockingpages.com)
Guilty Pleasures – Justin Bieber, because it’s still the Biebs

Video of the Year
Without a doubt, this one is my favorite video I posted this year.
This may be my favorite video of all time.
So what’s in store for 2013?
I know there’s going to be more Man Crush posts, because that was strangely cathartic.

Chris Brown, from rollingstone.com
I also want to post more about Country & Western. LOL, sorry, I crack my self up.
What I really want to do is have more guest posts. Not just because I’m lazy, but because there are some very, very witty people out there. I read quite a few blogs and I really think you’d enjoy their work. Hilarious bloggers I just KNOW would kill it on a music post.
Ok, it’s because I’m lazy. But I really do want to have guest posts. So if you’re interested, leave a comment and I’ll get back to you!
Anything else you want to see in 2013?
Wow, Lindsay AND the Biebs in the same post—I guess my life is complete now….
You know how to reach me.
Yes!
I most def want to see more of your man crush posts. I find them hilarious and cathartic for me with my girl crushes.
I have one half-written and looking at 2-3 weeks from now!
Fabulous!!!
Okay. I’m glad I didn’t try to define hipster after I read this post, because that picture really, really confuses me on so many levels. And by confuses, I, of course, mean “fascinates.”
Obviously more country and western. Horse and Hound editors are very willing to do guest posts, I hear. (Does that magazine actually exist? I’m not ashamed to admit I’m pulling that reference from Notting Hill.)
I’m not ashamed to say I knew it was from Notting Hill!
That hipster pic is classic. And who knew ke$ha was secretly a 60-year-old grandfather?
Not sure why it took me so long to find your blog but I’m glad I’m here (ha my kindles autocorrect tried to change blog to bologna. That woulda been awkward)
Haha! That’s really funny. I def want people seeing my blog, not my bologna. Thanks for kind words. Yours is pretty cool, too! Looking forward to reading more there!

I would love to do a guest post sometime. I have to warn you though. I am also very lazy. Quite possibly the laziest in Washtenaw County. And that’s really saying something. I have absolutely no shame abut revealing my guilty pleasures though. You know how to reach me.
