Ann Arbor Bloggers Meet-Up at The Last Word

We recently had our second meet-up of local Ann Arbor food and drink bloggers.   A few months ago, I posted about the idea and sent an open invitation to anyone interested.  As you’ll recall in my post about the first meeting, it was an absolute success…

Oh wait, I didn’t post about that.  I lost my camera for a while and then I lost interest in it.  But don’t take that as a lost night.  We had some good food, great cocktails, and awesome conversation at The Bar at 327 Braun Court.

Well, we met again a couple weeks ago at The Last Word, which has become one of my favorite places here in Ann Arbor.   The food and drinks were fantastic and – GET THIS – we actually talked about writing!

They have an EXTENSIVE craft cocktail list so, of course, I went ahead and had one of these.

dinner

Scott MacInnis is the chef there and he’s put together an amazing bar menu.  I would highly recommend going there for dinner and ordering more than a few of these.  Here’s some of what we enjoyed -

Oxtail Poutine - braised in red wine and served over french fries with oxtail gravy, whipped ricotta, and brunoise vegetables

The Topper

To top off the evening Dom decided to order The Volcano…

We’re going to try to meet every couple months.  To keep up on upcoming gatherings, go to www.meetup.com and look for “Ann Arbor Food and Drink Writers.” If you’re in the area, we’d love to have you.  But not in a Hannibal Lector sort of way.

That’s a lot of food bloggers all in one place.

Your pictures made everything look so tasty. I could hardly get past that first one of the meat fries. YUM.

Looks like you all had a GREAT time and ate well!

That’s what I kept thinking – all these food bloggers in one area? In a mid-west area?

I want to know how far they drove to get there. I agree, B-Man – that is A PLETHORA of food bloggers.

Technically, I’m more of a “humor blogger” than a “food blogger” except in cases where I can talk about food in a humorous way, but I do love to drink. (from time to time) and our meeting place is only about a 20 minute walk from my apartment, so…

Yeah, we r blessed with a terrific local food scene. But also cursed with a lot of literate, opinionated people unafraid of sharing those opinions. Except me, where it’s a blessing

That’s right! There’s nothing much to do here other then write about food, marry our cousins, shop at Elaine Bryant and watch Montel Williams. ;)

y’know, you’re sounding a little snarky. We also watch Springer and have mastered the fanny pack with white tennis shoes look.

Speaking of local bloggers, The Winegetter just did an AMAZING guest post for me about why Germany will reign supreme when it comes to bread. I highly recommend it.

Oh yeah, and the meet up: good time had by all.

OMG, Dom. I am sorry I gave you whatever rant I gave you…you are a beacon of zen to endure that…:)

I believe we were discussing the merits of hoarding books, and the ranting was most definitely not all from you! (I’ve been known to carry on myself from time to time!)

Being in central Oregon, if I tried to have a humor blogger get-together… it’d be me… and the empty chair where I’m hoping Hyperbole and a Half is going to turn up…

I think I’ll skip “The Volcano” next time. Having the slight taste of rum in my mouth all the next day? Not awesome. : )

Oxtail poutine?! Flaming drinks! Holy food bloggers. This is a lot of deliciousness for one post. So awesome that so many of you are able to get together!

That was fun! It was so great meeting everyone! I’d never thought I’d say oxtail poutine was my favorite of anything, but it was absolutely delish. All quite excellent, a drink called Rosemary’s Baby with infused rosemary syrup. Yum.

Sure was! The next meeting’s more of a “hey we’re going to be here, say hi if you see me” type of thing – Michigan Brewer’s Guild Summer festival. I”m thinking we need a limo for that one…

Man, that rocks! Wish I could qualify for membership. Instead, I’ll eat and drink vicariously through your posts. Most of my friends usually tell me, “You should really start a blog about food and wine.” Then I invite them for dinner and the subject somehow never comes up again. (see my comment on your elotes post)

I somehow just saw this now. Glory days! Miss you all!
