leave your inhibitions at the door
Just like last week, another post inspired by the innocence of youth… While I was limping around NYC, the girls were at their first-ever overnight camp. I don’t know if it was because we were swarthy immigrants or my parents were too cheap, but I never got to go away to camp. After hearing all the cool stuff they did and new friends they made, I was insanely jealous. Of course, they got to learn some great songs. Remember this one?
“I have a sad story to tell you
It may hurt your feelings a bit
Last night when I walked into my bathroom
I stepped in a big pile of …shhhhh . . . aving cream,
be nice and clean. . . .
Shave ev’ry day and you’ll always look keen.”
Piehole B also mentioned learning a great song called “One Tin Soldier”. It didn’t even register until she started singing “Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend…” It all came back to me like I was kicked in the head by Billy Jack – the half-breed American-Cherokee Indian/Green Beret Vietnam Vet/hapkido master/gunslinger.
Billy Jack was one of our favorite movies growing up. In the movie, the hero defends a group of hippies and Native Americans against the bigoted townspeople who abuse, humiliate, and ultimately rape and murder them. All with his fists and some well-placed kicks to the face. After a huge confrontation that leaves the bullies dead or wounded, Billy Jack ends up surrendering to police. As he’s being hauled away, a crowd of supporters line the streets with their fists in the air to show their support – all while this week’s Guilty Pleasure (by Coven) plays in the background.
Damn, I hope this is on Netflix. Great lines abound:
– Because her brain has been damaged by the heathen devil weed, marijuana!
– DAMN YOUR PACIFISM!
– I want you to know… that I try. When Jean and the kids at the school tell me that I’m supposed to control my violent temper, and be passive and nonviolent like they are, I try. I really try. Though when I see this girl… of such a beautiful spirit… so degraded… and this boy… that I love… sprawled out by this big ape here… and this little girl, who is so special to us we call her “God’s little gift of sunshine”… and I think of the number of years that she’s going to have to carry in her memory… the savagery of this idiotic moment of yours… I just go BERSERK!
And my all-time favorite
– You know what I think I’m gonna do then? Just for the hell of it? I’m gonna take this right foot, and I’m gonna whop you on that side of your face… …and you wanna know something? There’s not a damn thing you’re gonna be able to do about it.
