Quick note – For those of you who may have missed it, the Ying Yang Twins read last week’s post and “Loved it”. Sorry, had to gloat…
A few months ago, I was talking to a buddy about Guilty Pleasures and he mentioned Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone”.
Yeah, that’s a big fat Guilty Pleasure. If you’ll recall, she was the first winner of American Idol many years ago but she’s gone on to have a solid career with a string of hits. I’ve never liked the idea of Idol because it went against natural selection. In life, it’s the strongest and most talented that survive. So in music, bands that write good songs, hone their craft, and bust their asses will get noticed on some level.
And just like real life, if you don’t have a ton of talent, you can make a pretty decent living if you’re really hot. Most of the contestants on Idol can sing well but, let’s face it, outside of Carrie Underwood and Katherine McPhee, they are not good looking. Don’t believe me? Here are some Idol notables that had a lot of talent.
Now compare them to these two who are of modest talent, can write a catchy song, but are super-blessed in other ways –
Just saying…
Anyway, another song of Clarkson’s came back to haunt me – four times in the past week. Twice on the radio station for soccer moms, once on Dancing with the Stars, and once while watching Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Yes, all kinds of things I should be embarrassed about…
Oh wow…so very many things to be embarrassed about in this post. I don’t even know where to start. Oh, wait…yes I do. Princess Diaries…but not the first one, the SECOND one. That means that you’ve seen the first one too and loved it so much that you watched the second one. Shameful. 😉
Also, if I’m going to be honest here, whenever I’m driving and “Since You Been Gone” comes on the radio, I sing it at the top of my lungs. I think I even know all the words. Once again, shameful.
Sing it loud and sing it proud! I’d like to think of my GP posts as a safe haven, free of judgement. But yes, there were a lot of admissions in this one…. Thanks for popping by and let me know if you have any others!
PS – The first Princess Diaries was awesomely hilarious! Is this were I shut up and cut my losses?
