I Won an Award!!!

I don’t know how I missed this, but last Friday’s post was my 100th post.  I started this in late June so, if my math’s right, that’s about 23 posts a week.  OK, it only feels like it.  At least for you.

And it just so happened that I got also got my first award – The Liebster Blog Award. It’s given to up-and-coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. Liebster is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kindly, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.

The rules for the Liebster Blog Award are:

  1.  Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog.
  2. Link back to the blogger who awarded you.
  3. Copy & paste the blog award on your blog
  4. Reveal your 5 blog picks.
  5. Let them know you chose them by posting on their blog.

When I saw that I received this, I was thinking that I’d rather just have a lobster.  It’s not like it’s a Pulitzer, Nobel, or even a Razzie.  In fact, it’s basically a chain letter.  And it’s not even a great one because there’s no possibility of me getting  a thousand bucks from Bill Gates, half the Nigerian treasury, or a free iPad.  Heck, there’s not even a chance that I’d have one of three wishes come true.

As you can imagine with 24 trillion blogs out there, there’s not going to be any two or three main blog awards people recognize as THE ones to win.  Even if you look at it by subject area – say food and wine blogs – there are still a lot of bloggers out there.  And since I’ve taken a comedic lowbrow approach I can’t imagine Saveur is going to pick me for any of their awards.  But, as every blogger will tell you, I didn’t do this for awards.  I did it for the groupies.  (Nah, don’t worry, Boom Boom only reads half of these posts.)  And I did it for the opportunity for self-expression which I’ve done to the tune of 100 posts so far.

Since yesterday was Christmas, I’m going to invoke those words that I’m sure you said to yourself after your spouse just gave you a nose hair trimmer – It’s the thought that counts.  In this case, the thought to nominate me came from Yinzerella, who writes the blog “Dinner is Served”.  The tagline for her blog is “This is a Julie & Julia type project, but with a hell of a lot more Jell-O” and it’s a great concept.  She unearthed a circa 1972 green, plastic box with recipe cards and is painstakingly going through each of the recipes with humor as an extra ingredient.  As you can imagine, the recipes are extremely dated, yet she plows through like a trooper.  I’m a big fan of hers and am very appreciative of her nominating me.  Even though she is a Steelers fan.

So the other part of this award is I have to nominate five more blogs who have less than 200 hundred followers.  I have no fucking idea how to tell anyone else’s readership, so I’m going give shout outs to some of the blogs I follow.  It’s not like I won a Jaguar or anything, so if they take away my award, so be it.   Just to be nice, I’ll nominate more than five:

So Delushious  – I’ve mentioned her in another post – supermodel, dating John Legend, great cook, funny as all hell.  Admittedly, she has 1000s of followers.  I’m nominating her so that I have an excuse to write a comment on her blog.  Thus tapping into those 1000s for some page views on mine.

Go Guilty Pleasures!  I devote one post a week to Guilty Pleasures.  She devotes 100% to them.  ‘Nuff said.

La Vida Laura – Current law student here at University of Michigan.  She’s also in a bit of Ann Arbor discovery mode, although for her it’s re-discovery.  My main reason for nominating her is to encourage her to blog more because she’s very witty.  And because we have too many lawyers already.

Meg.goes.nom.nom –  She’s a local A2 blogger who is pretty damn religious about sharing her cooking and dining experiences.  I haven’t met her but, as I found out as I perused her site, I used to work with her husband.

Speaking of former co-workers, I came across  Eclectic Inclinations by chance.  Seeing him around the office, I had no idea he’s such a good photographer and writer.

White Elephant in the Room is a potpourri of all kinds of different things.  Hilarious lists abound.

Peggy Isaacs – is an aspiring writer who reflects on “Things I learned this week…”  Some really funny life observations there.

A Dissolute Life Means… Ok, I really didn’t really follow her – UNITL NOW.   WordPress, the blog hosting service I use, has a main page where I can search on topics.  I typed in “sex” and this is the first one that came up. I figured if I accidentally kill this chain letter award, I’ll make sure it goes out with a bang! Speaking of bangs, she had a really wild Christmas last year.  Whoa…

OK, gotta go read more posts of that last one.

Congrats on 100 posts! I’d be happy with a cookie, but that’s just me. LOL It’s fun that at least SOMEONE decided to award you. I have images of leg lamps in your future as well, though that might be because I’ve watched A Christmas Story WAY too many times. Have a great day, and again, congrats!

  3. I had lobster for Christmas dinner, so this Liebster award is just icing on the… lobster. And I don’t see anywhere in the rules that you can’t nominate a filthy blog. Actually, I think it’s pretty fitting. I’m passionate about food and wine and your blog is right up my alley. So I’ll write about sex, you write about food, and together we’ll live in hedonistic bliss!

Thanks again for the nod and props! I love your stuff, too!

… and together we can commiserate how we’ll never get Freshly Pressed because we don’t have G-rated feel-good posts, professionally quality pictures (at least for me), or have heart-wrenching stories about sick relatives. And for that I’m thankful. Except the picture part.

Awwww, thanks for the shout out. And why does everyone keep discouraging me from being a lawyer?! 🙂

Thank you so much for the nomination! Now that the holiday travel frenzy is over I can get my butt back to blogging where it belongs. I’m sure we could start a petition on that lobster thing.
