Melissa, a former coworker and writer of her own food blog – quanto basta, mentioned this song to me on Twitter in response to my Guilty Pleasures – Brighter Than the Sun post. Just like that song, this is upbeat, lyrically shallow, and ultra-catchy. The difference is that it didn’t take me six months to come around to the fact that I love this song. I was hooked the first time I heard it.
The video is pretty much a literal interpretation of the song – girl sees boy, girl is surprised at her own immediate inftuation, girl pursues boy. There are even some romance novel references to increase the sexual tension, building up to a surprise ending. (Anyone else but me see that coming? Was too good to be true. )
What DID throw me off was the moonwalking hipster guitarist at the 1:45 mark. I didn’t think hipsters would moonwalk like that. And what the heck are hipsters doing on such a mainstream pop song? I can see them moonwalking to Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr, but Carly Rae Jepsen? Is this guitarist being ironic? Or is he some kind of hipster poser? Would that be a “hoser?”
Speaking of hipsters, Fun. – the group that brought us “We Are Young” – did a cover of this song. Pretty damn good…
Update: Damn, the video of them performing it got yanked… Here’s an audio-only version:
Which one do you like better? Or are you like me and think both are killer?
Catchy song, B sings it all the time. A little maddening by not too offensive. It’ll be a summer 2012 song.
Totally cute song and video- love the ending. If you can’t enjoy this on some level you are way too serious. I prefer the original but the remake is nice too.
Did NOT see that ending coming!
Love it 🙂 Thanks JRey!
P.S. I have a June resolution for at least 1 new post a week!
OMG…totally hooked me with the Bob and Doug reference…I Love them!
