This weekend is the 16th Annual Michigan Brewer’s Guild Summer Beer Festival! It’s where more than 50 of Michigan’s Craft Brewers serve up over 350 beers in downtown Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor’s kooky, fun-loving, slightly ghetto neighbor.
This is my fourth time at the fest (my third as a blogger) and every time I go is a little bittersweet. On one hand, I love all the beer, food, music, and seeing a bunch of old friends. On the other hand, it’s a stark reminder of much of a complete lightweight I am. It’s amazing how quickly and how completely I get useless. Notice that I didn’t say “drunk?” Because, as I proved with the breathalyzer –
I wasn’t even near the legal drinking limit. #FML
And because I was completely useless, my posts about the festival have been very light on beer details. But not this time!
This time, I’m going to be prepared. I’m going to eat a ton of bread right before I go. Not that bread will actually reduce the effects of alcohol, I just figured eating something would help. I’m also going to bring a little notepad and a pen so that I can be a good little journalist wannabe.
But, most of all, I’ve been getting psyched up by listening to one of my favorite drinking songs, by Philly-based G Love and Special Sauce.

No promises, but I’m going to try to Tweet live from the event! Follow me – @FWHedonist – to get in on the action!
Whatcha going this weekend?

Festival fun
All that bread, all that beer – be careful or you might get a yeast infection. (Ew.)
Wait… that’s a possibility?!? Do they make Testisil? I think I better load up on Bourbon instead. Good idea?
Bourbon is ALWAYS a good idea. Testisil, haha.
Have a blast drinking all the beer!
Tweet live?!? Wait, I’ve seen this episode before…
I know, setting myself up for failure.. Gonna try, though! Can’t guarantee tweets will be coherent after the 1st 30 minutes
Oh G. Love…it always hits the spot.
Best of luck this weekend soldier! My tactic at these events, to maximize tasting, is that I find a “share buddy,” usually my husband. I take one sip of each sample and then pass it off to my higher-tolerance having buddy. I still end up a bumbling mess, but at least I get to stay in the game a little longer.
Yeah, I’m a huge fan and have seen him 4 times. Weird thing is I think he’s much better recorded than live. I’ve seen him at big venues and fests and he just can carry them. Maybe better in a really small venue… Happy Friday!
Looking forward to your reviews. And the song is perfectly refreshing, now I need a cold beverage too 🙂
