What’s Going to be THE Song of Summer for 2015?

It’s summer time!!   After another HORRENDOUS Michigan winter where the temperature was constantly in the single digits (Fahrenheit, not Celsius) I’m glad it’s here.    Of course as soon as it got warm, I saw someone on Facebook complaining that it got over 90 the other day.

What’s going to be the song of summer?   You know, that huge song that captures the mood and feeling of the season.  It puts smiles on people’s faces and is on everyone’s minds and tongues in the warmer months.  It’s the perfect soundtrack for driving around in the convertible, going to barbecues, or hanging out at the beach or pool.

There’s no one sure-fire way to predict it.   Often, it’s the one that’s about the obvious – summer itself, the sun, the beach – but it doesn’t have to be.   And it should be catchy, upbeat, and with a big anthem-like hook that people want to sing along to.

So with that all in mind, here are the contenders.

Summer reference – check.   Sing-along hook – check.   Added bonus of Adam Levine’s ass in the video – check.   But then again, Calvin Harris’ song “Summer” got beat out last year.   And maybe a little bummer ?

I really like this song and Kendrick Lamar’s great in it.   There’s some buzz about it because some say it’s a diss song on Katy Perry.   It’s probably some BS to get people to listen, but if it is then I say no because I’m a KatyCat. #didijustadmitthat

Great hook, but not exactly the upbeat party atmosphere. Where my party songs at?

Um. No.

Solid contender, but maybe it’s been around too long?

Love this, but too dancey.   And I think people are getting tired of both Guetta and Minaj.

Holy balls is this catchy.   A little too country for me, but feel-good lyrics and video.

Who do you think is going to take the title?  Any songs I missed?

You’re on the wrong side of the Katy/Taylor feud, man! Some hard-hitting journalism for you: http://www.buzzfeed.com/samstryker/a-full-history-of-taylor-swifts-alleged-feud-with-katy-perry#.mlAxRvZY

OMG… I can’t believe I read the whole thing. Here’s why I’m Team Katy – “…Taylor, who he said was “very untouchable” and “a lot more protected” than the Teenage Dream icon.” Yes, I’d much rather touch Katy… that and the Mean Girls reference.

But I admit, as Katy’s relationship with John Mayer continues which highlights her bad decision-making, I’m starting to warm up to Tay.

Every time I hear ‘summer’s gonna hurt’ I think, ‘I wonder when Hedonist will be posting his songs of summer?’ Much as I love Adam, this song is just sounds too stylized and formulaic. I, also love Taylor, and I love this video, but the song is just okay. My vote is ‘Shut up and Dance.’ It sounds like summer without trying too hard. Thanks for the post.

Summer successes are always very popy, catchy…appeal to mass market stuff. That’s definitely one!
