Last week in this space, I featured seven songs that had potential for being THE song of the summer for 2015 and what I thought of each. But did you notice that I didn’t make any predictions?
Through the years I’ve made Grammy, Oscar, and Super Bowl predictions. And through the years my track record has been absolutely miserable. Clearly, I’m not Nostradamus.
But it doesn’t mean that I don’t have a favorite that I really, really, want to be THE song –
I love this song and video but it probably won’t be the song of summer, mainly because I just jinxed it. But also, it’s just a little too “urban” for mainstream America’s tastes. Hopefully, I’m wrong.
I typically don’t like songs or artists that are retro-inspired like Meghan Trainor and Michael Buble. But this Mark Ronson tune, along with his earlier collaboration with Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk – feels different. Both songs are not just inspired by old funk songs of the 60s and 70s, they sound someone came across unreleased tracks found in some Geraldo Rivera hidden vault.
This one sounds a lot like an old James Brown song, but with DMX doing the singing and a Tighten Up-style drum break in the middle. Every time I hear it, I can’t help but start dancing.
I was trying to write a gag along the lines of “if James Brown and DMX had a baby…” And I went to MakeMeBabies.com where you can upload two pictures and it’ll merge the two to see what the baby would look like.
First the James Brown picture…
And here’s the DMX picture…
Now here’s what they came up with.
Hellooooooo Rachel Dolezal’s son!!
i love it so much. the video, the baby, the idea of DMX and James Brown gettin’ it on. Thanks for the laughs.
Yikes – the whole Rachel Dolezal thing makes me cringe… Of course, working in HR, where ethnicity issues come up, and being that she is in the same state, perhaps it is more in the forefront for me. I just have to say, she needs to stop talking to the media – she is not helping herself!
