leave your inhibitions at the door
Summer was a little disappointing for me. Here in Michigan, it was the second straight year with lower-than-usual temperatures which resulted in another so-so tomato crop. The cooler temperatures also meant that I didn’t win the lottery and a bikini-clad Ariana Grande didn’t show up in my backyard.
No comment on whether a fully-clothed Ariana Grande showed up.
I found this summer’s music to be a little less than amazing as well. There wasn’t any one big song that dominated the others, just a few that were slightly more popular than the rest. Here were the candidates I suggested a few months ago –
TayTay and Wiz were popular this summer and I was surprised to see David Guetta and the cast of “Ben Hur” get a bunch of airplay. But there were two other songs that were more popular…
The first was OMI’s Cheerleader which was all over the radio.
But I refuse to crown this as The Song of Summer 2015. Why? BECAUSE I FUCKING COULDN’T STAND IT. Every time it came on the radio, I couldn’t hit the tuner, volume, any or all, buttons on the radio fast enough. So it doesn’t count because I only heard a couple snippets of it at a time.
My vote goes to a song that got everybody dancing this summer. It transcended the radio to appear on television, YouTube, and just about every gathering of more than 2-3 teenagers. It was downright unavoidable.
Silento’s Watch Me
I gotta say, I kill at the “Stanky Leg” leg part. Too bad there’s no video of me doing it. Although there’s a pretty good chance of it tonight if that party I’m going to is half as good as it was last year.
Until those videos surface, here are some other versions
Maybe the best ever –
Even rednecks were doing it (skip to 0:55) –
And you know it’s huge when Jimmy Fallon does it (5:35 mark) –
