Whatcha got planned for today? I’m going to be celebrating this most American of American holidays playing a distinctly Scottish sport – golf.
Enjoy this post from a couple years ago. Stay safe!!

Today is the USA’s birthday and all over the country many people are celebrating by spending time with family, barbecuing, blowing shit up, and feeling the overall super-patriotic vibes of the holiday.

Do you know what song exemplifies being an American to me? This Coke commercial from this year’s Super Bowl –

This was actually pretty controversial when it aired. Almost immediately, people were screaming on Twitter and Facebook that this was borderline treasonous because it had the audacity to feature people singing “America the Beautiful” in different languages.
I think it’s a wonderfully poetic statement of what it means to be an American. That, even though the words are in a different language, the sentiments behind them are the same. I was brought to tears by this simple, yet powerful, statement. Maybe being in commie, leftist, pinko Ann Arbor has finally rubbed off on me.
Or maybe I’m just getting older and mellowing out. Over time, I’ve come to better appreciate subtlety and calmness. I don’t feel the need to vigorously wave a flag and wear red, white, and blue all over my body.
Unless we go to the pool. Then I’m definitely going to wear this…

Honestly, does this make me look fat patriotic?
Maybe it’s because I’m a naturalized citizen (pronounced “swarthy immigrant”) that I appreciate that this is the land of opportunity for all kinds of people. This country has always been a melting pot, but instead of the tired, poor, and hungry coming from Europe, they’re coming from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
America is made up of all different kinds of people. It’s like all the colors of a rainb…
Oh screw it. Let’s ROCK!

LOL great repost! Happy 4th to you and yours! We are having a party and a “soft opening” of hubby’s 3-hole putting and chipping course he built in our backyard. The greens are still a bit sketchy and need more time to grow, but it should be a hoot! Have fun!
