I Still Rule The Radio

….but it’s freaking me out.

A couple years ago, I wrote a post about how I Rule The Radio.    I highly recommend you read it because it’s probably the only time you’ll see references to The B-52’s and Kyrgyzstan horse-milking music in the same place.   Heck, it’s probably the only time you’ll see a reference to Kyrgyzstan horse-milking music AT ALL.

In the post I mentioned how, one morning on Facebook,  I questioned the music being played on a local  radio station.    Later that same day that radio station changed formats – as if they saw my Facebook status and realized that they had to make a change for their own good.    Coincidence? No.  Validation of my musical taste-making?   Damn right.     I was willing to overlook the fact that some radio station was creeping on my Facebook status because it was a cool compliment.   But another change in radio format has got me all paranoid.

A couple weeks ago, one of Detroit’s sports talk radio stations changed format after only a couple years.  The new station, nicknamed “The Bounce” advertises itself as a “throwback hip hop and R&B” station playing songs from those genres from the 90s and 00s.    The very first song I heard on the station was:

Tupac’s California Love

Followed by Wreckx-n-Effect’s Rump Shaker

I would’ve stayed in the car longer, but I had errands to do.   When I got back into the car, the next two songs I heard were

Blackstreet’s No Diggity

Tag Team’s Whoomp There It Is

Whether or not it’s a cool format could be up for debate –   though in my mind it’s a choice between whether it’s awesome or FUCKING awesome.   But what not up for debate is that it’s some next generation, NSA-is-spying-on-me level of creepiness.

I know just how you feel, homey.

All those songs – and just about everything else they’ve played since switching – are ALL ON MY IPHONE.   Whoever “they” are  – the radio station, NSA, the Illuminati – they stole from my private music library.  Or they’ve bugged my car and are listening in.  They’re probably monitoring my laptop righ—

I gotta get out of here.

Sounds like SiriusXM’s Fly channel. The gymnast is a huge fan of California Love – she’ll start ‘singing’ the robo-refrains like “city of compton”

This is hilarious! Glad I can hang out on a blog with someone famous enough to spy on. 😉

Holy crap, I forgot to tell you! I did my first 90-second plank today, woohoo! All thanks to you and introducing me to Pure Barre. I can’t thank you enough.

Nice! All I did was point you to it – you’re the one who did all the hard work. Congrats!
